Shortly thereafter, the show moved filming to Chicago, prompting Springer to leave Cincinnati. The new version of Springer's talk show garnered huge ratings, and lots of attention. The show was renewed again in the fall of , picked up by NBC-Universal through the season. The year marked Springer 's 22nd season.
In addition to his success in the TV talk-show circuit, Springer became a morning radio talk-show host. Broadcast in 85 markets, including many Air America affiliates, the show would last for two years. In , Springer showcased his dancing ability as a contestant on the program Dancing With The Stars, finishing in the top five. His performance earned him critical acclaim, and landed him a reprisal of the role on Broadway in August of Additionally, he starred for a week in a production of the Rocky Horror Show Live.
A man of diverse talents, Springer stepped into the studio to record a country music CD; written his memoirs in the book Ringmaster ; and has had his own late-night variety show in both England and South Africa.
Additionally, he twice served as the master of ceremonies for the Miss World Pageant and, in the summer of , hosted the Miss Universe Pageant. By , he had become the station's lead anchor. On five separate occasions, Cincinnati residents voted Springer the city's best news anchor.
Springer also received seven Emmy Awards for his political commentaries. In , Springer resigned his position at WLWT to give more time to a daily talk show that he had started in It was called The Jerry Springer Show , and it remains on the air today.
Springer was intrigued by the opportunity to host a more "grown-up" program and to use his law school education. The show typically involves real small claims court cases that have already been filed so as to avoid people who are doing this solely for their 15 minutes of fame and Jerry serving as a legal arbitrator.
He was the host of the television talk show The Masculine Feminist who advocated women's rights and equality, using his show and influence to assist in such things as turning the Nudie Bar into a coffee house, and men's bowling night at Jim's Bowl-A-Rama into a women's bowling night.
