Plz help. Hi, Sounds like you are off to a great start. These programs are great because you get workouts to follow as well as a good clean diet. I really need your advice! I have time and also the room for either one! I want to gain muscle in my legs and arms.
And abs as well but lose some weight! Yor help would be greatly appreciated :. Hi Samantha, Either one can help you achieve your goals, but it is diet that is going to ultimately determine your results.
The Beachbody on Demand feature allows you to stream either of these workouts. There is a day trial offer so you can test it out. I would recommend that option and try both of them and determine which one you like more. This is a great article. I am a 43 year old mom of four kids ranging from 15 years to 1 year old. I just finished week 3 of T 25 beta. I really like the t25 program and plan to continue with Gamma. I have lost I am also doing weight watchers online to help with food accountability.
As you can imagine with four kids time is a big issue. I used to train with weights consistently and was most happy with my body at this point in my life. I did indoor cycling at the same time. I am still confused as to whether I should move to P90x or go to insanity. I still have a little over 20 pounds I would like to lose. P90x concerns me because I have shoulder problems and cannot do military style push-ups or even do a full girly push up and a pull up is probably going to wreck my shoulders.
Can I do something instead of pull ups when that is the focus in p90x? There is the option to use the band for a similar movement. I am mainly looking for toning up but weight loss is always a bonus. Would P90x be a right fit for me? I am training for a half-marathon and run nights a week, usually about 8 miles at a time and sometimes a long weekend run.
Hi Rebekah, Nice results! Gosh, I have no idea how much to get back your running. Long distance running is something I wish I could get into, but I always seem to injure myself or something comes up. I stopped excercising about a year ago and when I tried going back to the gym on July I got an achilles tendon rupture at the end of a kickboxing class :.
The doctor just released me from therapy but recommended to stick with low impact and no contact excercises or sports. Which program s would you recommend for me? Hi Martha, Both of these programs I would categorize as high-impact.
I would take a look at the PiYo program, there is a review on my homepage. First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to publish this article. I found it very informative. I am seeking your advice as far as which program you think will be best for me. Hi Nicole, The best program is one that you are going to find more enjoyable.
As long as you lose pounds a week, which is the optimal amount for everyone, you should minimize or not have any loose skin issues, that comes down to a lot to genetics and age. I have been into heavy lifting for a very long time. What are your thoughts? Hi Gwendolyn, P90X sounds like it is more up your alley. Hello, My name is Kayla. I have been involved in sports my entire life, playing soccer, basketball, fast pitch, baseball, volleyball, and currently rugby.
I really want to get into shape and boost my self esteem, I have had body issues since I was in 5th grade. I want to work towards a flat stomach and slimming my legs down and lose weight.
I live in a dorm, as I am a freshman, and would like to do the workouts in my room. Your recommendation would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! Hi Kayla, P90x would be very difficult to do effectively in a dorm room. I am 18 and i used to be a competitive gymnast for about 10 years. When I quit which was about 3 years ago I stopped working out completely.
I have always wanted to get back into the shape I used to be in but I never really had the drive until now. My main focus is gaining back my strength, but I also want to increase flexibility and endurance. I want something that I can continue using past the 60 or 90 day mark. Hi Sam, P90X would be very difficult to do in a dorm. Isanity you need, I would say about a six by six space and some head room. Firstly, thank you so much for providing this wonderful comparison!
My main concern with either of the two is bulking up and getting unnecessarily tight muscles. In order to lose weigh and become leaner without bulking up which would be the better of the two for me?
Thanks so much once again! Hi Natali, I would take a look at the PiYo program, it is to build long lean muscle, which it sounds like you want. In the category drop down on the sidebar of this site, you can find all of the articles I have written about it.
First of all you are Awesome for help so many people! I am 28 years old, I am about pounds. I want to become more tone as well as buff! I also want to lose weight. PX or Insanity? I just recently quit because it was too time consuming.
I just want to have a toned flat stomach.. Which program would you recommend for me?.. Happy to have found your extremely informative site. I am 47 and have lost almost 70 lbs since April through regular exercise and healthy eating. I have 40 left to lose. I am quite motivated and get at least 30 mins cardio in 7 days a week and at least 2 days of some strength training. I have noticed it is getting harder to see results.
I do not want to get bored! What program would you recommend for me? I am really wanting to see dramatic results by my next birthday in June. I enjoy both the strength training and the cardio-anything that makes me really sweat! I would like to lose fat, continue to build lean muscle, and gain more flexibility.
Thanks in advance for your time! Hello Desiree! Congratulations on your weight loss so far — that is really terrific! I think the 21 Day Fix would be a great program for you. It incorporates an easy-to-follow diet plan and has all the cardio, yoga, and strength training that you love and are looking for. And…it will make you sweat. Hope this helps, and keep up the good work! I would to drop about 10 lbs to be back to my pre-children weight. I have a history of playing sport through my 20s where I did a lot of endurance and strength training rugby.
Then since having kids, I have been playing rec league soccer in summers and belly dancing year round. And overall toning besides. Hi Jenn, Sorry, but no one can spot reduce fat loss naturally.
I have never been an athletic person or have done any kind of exercise yet I have always been slim. But recently i have been noticing gain in weight skinny fat , especially in my midsection and arms.
I want to tone up my whole body and be in more shape also with losing fat in my midsection. Hi Kiabeth, It depends on what type of exercise you like. There are a few reviews that you can take a look at on this site. Hi, I am 27 years old. I have a baby 7 month ago. I am libs and 5,5. I do not want to lose weight want to gain muscle mass. Also have problems with cellulite. Hi Fabiane, Body Beast is the at home workout program that you will want to take a look at for building muscle mass.
In high school and college I was extremely active. I ran, played sports, and did crew. I had always been solidly built, ranging from — until during my pregnancy I ballooned over Can you recommend a program? P90x, Insanity, or anything else? Thanks in advance. Getting your diet down will help with the ups and downs, plus it will get you in the habit of daily exercise.
I already eat very strict paleo with no added fruit except a handful of berries a day and will need to continue with this same diet due to health issues autoimmune issues. Hi Kellie, I would not recommend either one these programs to you. Both programs are extremely intense and take a lot of effort. Plus, it sounds like you are looking to tone more than lose weight.
I would suggest taking a look at Brazil Butt Lift or the PiYo workout, you can find revies of both on this site. Hi, Bethany. Would you recommend it? I also want to look good in my dress for prom in early May! Please help! Hi Quin!
Congratulations on the decision to get fit. That is HUGE and farther than some people will ever make it, so good for you! If you already have P90X and free weights or resistance bands to use for all the resistance training in P90X, I would definitely just follow that program. Just remember to always be mindful and listen to your body, and do the workouts at your own pace. Good luck! P90X will definitely get you toned, healthy and feeling better overall. I hope this helps, but if you do have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
Take care — Bethany. Hi Bethany, Thanks for writing this informative article. However, my final decision will be based on how you answer this question: which program works best on carpeted floor?
Hi Crystal, I would definitely go with Insanity — it works awesome on carpeted floors. The weights with P90X can be a litty iffy. I am 27 years old I have been doing the gym thing for about 4 months now. I am trying to get in the military. I have around 20 pounds to go. I started at and am now I am trying to figure out how to lose the weight faster I am dieting and everything like I should. Hi Stacey, for those going into the military, I think P90X is the better option.
Congrats on the weight loss so far, you will get there. So both my mom and I are looking to lose weight. Both of us are over weight and unhappy with the way our bodies are. I am 18 and she is I used insanity as part of conditioning for high school basketball and was in love with it. We only did it for about a month 1 day a week. Both of us are looking to shred weight and build muscle and follow a diet plan. I am torn on which one we should be doing.
I play basketball and basically year round. When I weighed myself the other day I got really discouraged and I want to lose 30 pounds or get to The weight is mainly in my tummy.
I want to still have a butt tho lol or bigger Which do you prefer I should get? I would like to lose this weight by February if possible.
Hi Ida, I know it sounds petty, but these programs are for those 18 years old and older. And, I cannot give advice to those under 18 years of age. I have both Insanity and P90X. Even though I did get good results with insanity about a year ago I gained everything I lost back and some.
I really enjoy lifting weights better then I do cardio. Plus you might build a little more muscle. I want to end up weighing around I have the equipment to do p90x and own both of them.
What do you think I should do? Or would both be good to switch from day to day? Thank you in advance… ;. Hi Ofelia, eihter program would help you reach your goals.
It is not a good idea to switch day to day as the programs are designed to be followed alone. There are hybrid schedules of the two programs that you can look into, but these are more for advanced and not suited for beginners.
Soundd like P90X might be the better program gour you at this point or have a look at the new P90 program, I;ll be writing a review in the future.
Hi Sierra, Congrats on the weight loss so far! I have no doubt you will hit your goal. I agree with you, I do not think Insanity woould be a good program for you, especially not with the knee issues. P90X does sound like it would be the better option for you, the strangth training and cardio workout will be a good mix. You do not need the pull-up bar, but you will need a resistance band for some of the moves, you can find these cheap at almost any retail store.
Should I do insanity and go to the gym? I know weights are good for women in weight loss. Hello, I think you are over complicating it.
Do not do Insanity and go to the gym. Insanity is extreme enough and going to the gym too could lead to overtraining. Your goal should be to lose pounds of weight a week. This is a healthy amount of weight to lose, in the long-term this will lead to permanent weight loss. My suggestion is this, choose a program and stick to it. If you like strength training, go with P90X, If you like the intense cardio workouts in Insanity, stick with it, eat right and you will lose weight. Hi Bethany. I too have had trouble with my weight fluctuating throughout my life.
I weighed lbs 2 years ago and lost the weight due to depression and barely eating. I wonder if you feel that I would get good results with adding either of these workouts to my routines. I already do Rockin Body and Hip Hop Abs to help my daughter lose weight but like to mix things up a bit and I find them fairly easy. I have already noticed a slight improvement and only been using them 3 weeks. I now eat regularly and healthier and my energy levels have rocketed even though I have trouble sleeping.
Then you could move onto either P90X, Insanity, or T Couple things that have helped me get better sleep are. Creating a night time routine, no electronics an hour before bed, no intense exercise after 7, and mo caffeine after 3,.
Also, I wanted to say it is great you are helpng your daughter and it sounds like you are inspiring her. I did not follow the diet completely but did try to eat better during the week and lost pounds and inches.
I am not a scale girl as much as a, how do I look, feel and clothes fit type of person. I am borrowing Insanity from a friend and was wondering what you think about combining the 2? I hate the idea of dropping the weights all together but I also think I need more cardio to lean up. I am starting to see slow progress with losing body fat and seeing more veins and such but I really want to lean up and tone without bulk. Hi Linday, I think a P90X and Insanity hybrid schedule would be a great mix of cardio and weights for you.
That way the weight will stay of for good. I stopped working out and got really bad eating habits over the past 6 months. Before relocating to a different state I was weighing in at , very active did strength training, bootcamps, zumba, daily cardio workouts like treadmill, jogging, elliptical.
I had went from lbs to All with hard work and dedication. My stomach has always been a huge trouble area. I want to shed fat fast… but also build lean muscle?
Hi Teresa, P90X does have the weight training which Insanity does not and since you like training at the gym with weights twice a week, I would suggest P90X.
HI thank you for your time. I am looking to tone my legs again. I was always muscular but now that I am 43 I have noticed…. I am active though, I play field hockey weekly with 20 somethings and they are impressed.
Hi Lori, sounds like you need a program that will push you. Either of these two programs will do just that. I might give the edge to Insanity as I think it would be more beneficial to your field hockey. I have never really been a hard core fit person. I hate gyms. Because of that, I have always liked to stay active by spending a lot of time outdoors doing activities like camping, hiking, walking my dog, etc. I have always been average sized…not thin and muscular but still able to get away with wearing a bikini-type body.
Also with all that studying comes a lot of snacking, so you can imagine how that is not good for my health. About 25 pounds have crept on me over the last 3 years, and I am ready for them to GO. I have always liked the look of people that are FIT, not necessarily thin.
However, over the long haul I would like to have some feminine muscle tone. Will insanity give me that, or should I go ahead with P90X? My other reason for leaning towards Insanity is because I am on a tight budget. I like that it requires no equipment. Hi Amanda, I agree Insanity does sound like it would be the better option for you while you are in school. Also, you might want to look into T25 also from Shaun T, I have a review on the sidebar, T25 workouts are only 25 minutes long and while you are in school they might be a better option.
Plus, T25 has resistance training that will help you build that muscle. These are easy and healthy. Hello, I work out pretty often consisting of Hot Yoga, Zumba, some weight training and pole dance. Im trying to get rid of a stubborn 10 lbs and tone tone tone. Im torn between p90x, insanity and t Hi Nichol, the last 10 lbs are the hardest to lose. If you like weihgt training, P90X has, Insanity is harcore cardio, no weights. Also, to lose those last 10, your diet is going to have to be spot on, so that might be something to take a closer look at.
After two years in college my body has been on a decline. I try to get to the gym when I can but feel I have no motivation. My main target is my belly, sliming it and then toning it. Next to that would be full body toning.
After reading your comparison I am now confused about which option to choose. What do you think would best accommodate my fitness goal? Hi Ashley, if equipment is a concern than Insanity would be a much better option as you do not need any. It will also help slim and tone you up.
Hi I have 42 years old my weigh is pound Iam 5 feet tall. I want to loose weight and tone my muscle. Now I will like you help me to know which one yo recomended to do. Hi Elena, both programs can help you reach your goals, but they are different. If cardio is more of your game then Insanity would be the better choice for you. This type of diet will produce quick weight loss while decreasing bloat and fluid retention.
This phase is also crucial for fat burning since the body resorts to using fat stores for fuel as opposed to glucose. Phase 2 is the Energy Booster phase and will help improve energy by adding more carbs to your meal plan.
The extra carbohydrates will give you added energy for improved performance. The third and final phase is referred to as the Endurance Maximizer.
This phase increases carb consumption once again to give you the extra push necessary to make it to the end of the 90 day program. All three phases include plenty of lean protein and are comprised of healthy fats, vegetables and whole foods. The P90X nutrition plan does not give extremely specific guidelines on how long each phase should last because it recognizes that each person is different. In order to determine how long you should remain in each phase, you should gauge how you feel before and after each workout, compare the results you are seeing and determine how much fuel you need in order to complete the workouts.
The nutrition plan that accompanies Insanity is known as the Elite Nutritional plan. It includes a variety of breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack options for you to choose from and shows you how to combine foods to help your metabolism work at its peak. The plan is not necessarily a diet but instead a way of fueling your body to be able to endure the intense cardio workouts Insanity features.
On the plan, you can expect to consume 5 meals per day, all approximately the same size and number of calories. Eating several times per day at specified intervals gives you the stamina necessary to carry you through the day, and also keeps your metabolism burning calories all day long. Since each individual has different caloric intake needs, the program includes ways to modify the plan according to your individual situation.
Although there has recently been a low carb craze, the program advises against this and suggests that you balance your carbs and protein in order to maintain optimal blood sugar levels.
During the first month on the Insanity Elite Nutrition Plan, you will choose five meals per day consisting of about calories each. As you enter the second month on the plan and your body is burning calories more effectively, you may increase your caloric intake to help keep your body fueled for the more strenuous workouts ahead.
Both Insanity and P90X have every different nutritional plans and that is because they are very different type s of workouts. One similarity between the two is the ability to modify the plan according to your individual needs. This is something that sets Beachbody workout plans and their nutritional l programs apart from the rest. It recognizes that every individual is different and there is not one single plan that will apply to all.
Results are what people are looking for when they purchase a workout program and both of these programs will give you very different but very noticeable results in your physique. The P90X Program was designed to increase your overall strength, build your core, burn fat and help you achieve maximum results through repeated muscle confusion.
It includes 12 different workouts. The workouts on average are about an hour apiece. Insanity is another extreme at home workout program created by Shaun T and Beachbody. The workouts are very cardio heavy and include plyometric interval training going hard for as long as you can with a short break in between.
With this type of workout, you will burn fat and lose weight. Since they are both advanced at home workouts, people often compare them and ask which is harder. I honestly think that both are difficult, and each will get you amazing results in a short time if you follow the program. P90X is going to have harder strength training, and Insanity is going to have harder cardio training. My results were actually better with P90X though.
I think that was because of the diet plan, and I was able to give the P90X workouts more than Insanity. I struggled during every Insanity workout, and I was in shape! First, we want to let you know — both workout programs are tough even for an advanced exerciser. P90X uses muscle confusion to help you break down into fitness plateaus you have and continually challenge the body for max results in strength gains. If you are wanting even an increase lean muscle mass, I would suggest P90X.
Insanity is approximately 35 minutes in month 1 and 60 minutes in month 2. Insanity is 60 days long. P90X is a little over an hour each day, and the yoga workout is 90 minutes long. P90X programs usually go for 45 minutes, 6 days a week, and wraps up in 90 days. The Yoga portion goes up to minutes. P90X provides more variation of intensity, which makes it easier to keep good form and complete.
Insanity is minutes, 6 days a week, for 60 days, split into two months. The first-month courses are around 45 minutes long, which pushes up to 60 minutes long in the second month. Some people enjoy the rest period, while others find it hard to stay motivated, knowing that the hardest exercises are yet to come. Although the overall program is shorter, it is incredibly difficult to reliably maintain. Online reviews tend to complain about it being hard on ankles, knees, and wrists.
This is a serious workout for people who are already fit. It's not for the fitness newbie. With high intensity comes greater risk of injury. To avoid injury, you will have to know the correct form and technique for each move. Insanity uses HIIT, meaning you get short breaks between longer periods of intense exertion. Insanity is also lacking in the modification department. The Fat Shredder phase is high in protein and low in fat and carbs.
The Energy Booster phase is similar to the Insanity diet — high in carbs and protein, low in fat. The plan gives you a guide to calculating your calories and easy recipes.
Beachbody also works to keep you supported after you turn off your TV. With your purchase, they offer hour access to fitness experts and an online community forum. Does P90X build muscle or just tone? P90X can build muscle as well as tone with the right adjustments. Since the P90X program requires equipment , you can adjust that equipment to build strength and further challenge your muscles.
Some examples would be increasing the resistance with heavier dumbbells, adding ankle weights, or using tighter resistance bands.
